Below is a description:
In November 1789, New Jersey became the first state to ratify the Bill of Rights, the document that established America’s tradition of freedom. Join your colleagues in a conference to celebrate the 220th anniversary of this historic event. The featured speakers are:
- -Keith Whittington, Princeton University: “The Significance of a National Bill of Rights”
- -Robert Williams, Rutgers University: “The Right of the People Shall not be Violated: The Evolution of Constitutional Rights in New Jersey.”
- -Karl Niederer, NJ State Archives, on the provenance of NJ’s original copy of the Bill of Rights
- -Jon Lurie, Rutgers University, and Maxine Lurie, Seton Hall, on notable New Jersey legal cases that were decided by the US Supreme Court.
